John Bruce believes in fostering an environment of trust that is earned, not given, and upholding the highest ethical standards — for himself, and his employees alike. Under John's leadership, the sheriff's office will operate with values of honesty, transparency, and accountability. John vows to protect and respect the constitutional rights of every individual, ensuring equal treatment regardless of race, gender, religion, or socioeconomic status. John believes in Procedural Justice that is based on four central principles: Treating people with dignity and respect, Giving individuals “voice” during encounters, Being neutral and transparent in decision making, and Conveying trustworthy motives.
Leadership
With over 35 years of law enforcement experience, we can trust John’s commitment to ensuring Klickitat County remains a safe, secure community for our families. Growth, opportunity, and effectiveness are among some of John’s goals for the office to ensure Klickitat County has some of the best-trained deputies in the state. John has been told that no new deputy positions have been approved in the budget process in over twenty years. John would conduct a comprehensive quantitative workload assessment to determine staffing requirements and provide recommendations for all areas. John would work with the County Commissioners to develop a strategic plan to increase the numbers of deputies.
Service
John is committed to enhancing the delivery of our services by providing strong customer service, strengthening communications with the community, promptly addressing community concerns, and engaging in collaborative community partnerships to reduce crime and the fear of crime. During his tenure as Chief, John deployed a strong Community Oriented Policing strategy focused on proactive and professional service to improve public safety and strengthen the police-community relationship. John believes that the Sheriff’s Office cannot deliver top quality service without the assistance of the citizens.
